► (1868-1940) Arquitecto alemán. Surgido artísticamente del Jugendstil, superó muy pronto esta etapa y pasó a desarrollar un lenguaje arquitectónico inspirado en criterios funcionales, por lo que se le ha considerado uno de los precursores del movimiento racionalista.

Arquitecto y diseñador alemán. En 1903 se convirtió en director de la escuela de artes y oficios de Düsseldorf. En 1907, la gran compañía eléctrica AEG lo contrató como su asesor artístico, importante cargo que le permitió diseñar la marca comercial hexagonal de AEG, sus catálogos, su papelería, productos como ventiladores eléctricos y luminarias, y sus tiendas y fábricas. Su fábrica de turbinas de AEG en Berlín (1909–12), con su extenso muro cortina de vidrio, se convirtió en el edificio más importante de Alemania de esa época. Fue un pionero influyente del modernismo; Walter Gropius, Le Corbusier y Ludwig Mies van der Rohe trabajaron en su oficina.
